Nintendo has officially outlined pricing details for a wide range of Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrade Packs, revealing a mixed structure of free updates and paid enhancements across major first-party and third-party titles.
The update system includes prices ranging from free upgrades to premium $19.99 enhancement packs for select blockbuster games.
Mixed Pricing Model for Switch 2 Upgrades
The upgrade structure varies significantly depending on the game. Some titles will receive free enhancements, while others require a small one-time payment to unlock improved performance or additional content on Switch 2.
At the higher end, flagship Nintendo titles such as Super Mario Bros. Wonder and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are priced at $19.99 and $9.99 respectively for their Switch 2 upgrade packs. Meanwhile, Pokemon Legends: Z-A is listed at $9.99, reflecting a mid-tier upgrade model.
A large portion of the catalog will receive free upgrades, particularly from third-party publishers. Titles such as Hades 2, Stardew Valley, and Red Dead Redemption are included in the free category, allowing players to benefit from improved performance without additional cost.
On the paid side, several notable releases such as Overcooked 2 ($9.99), Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition ($9.99), and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds ($10.00) fall into the mid-range upgrade pricing bracket.

Nintendo has also confirmed that some upgrades may be included at no additional cost for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers, particularly for select Zelda titles.
Industry-Wide Upgrade Strategy for Switch 2
The pricing strategy suggests a hybrid model designed to balance free enhancements with monetized upgrades for more substantial improvements or content additions. Some games are receiving full “Switch 2 Edition” packages, which include visual upgrades, performance boosts, and additional content.
With more than 50 titles listed across both free and paid tiers, the Switch 2 upgrade ecosystem appears to be one of Nintendo’s most structured cross-generation support systems to date.
