The Nintendo Switch 2 modding community has reached another milestone after developer Gezine revealed a new userland exploit that reportedly works across all firmware versions.
While the breakthrough has attracted attention from enthusiasts, it does not currently pose a piracy threat, marking a key difference from the original Nintendo Switch’s early security vulnerabilities.
The discovery was shared by Gezine. Unlike previous Switch 2 exploits, the new method reportedly functions without relying on save data transfers or Nintendo Switch Online, making it more accessible for security researchers and homebrew developers.
New Exploit Removes Previous Limitations
In a post on X, Gezine explained that the exploit is
“not webkit or save exploit”
and differs from earlier userland methods that depended on save transfers through Nintendo’s online service.
Explaining the advantage of the discovery, Gezine wrote,
“This one works without any restriction and works at all fw,”
indicating that the exploit functions across every current firmware version. The developer also noted that Switch 2’s WebKit implementation includes Arm Pointer Authentication Code (PAC) protections, making browser-based exploitation more difficult. As a result, Gezine chose a different attack path instead of targeting the console’s web browser.
Despite the technical achievement, the exploit remains confined to userland access, meaning it does not provide deep system-level control required for piracy or custom firmware installation.

Nintendo Appears Better Protected Than the Original Switch
The original Nintendo Switch faced widespread piracy after an unpatchable boot ROM vulnerability was discovered shortly after launch. Because the flaw existed in the console’s hardware, Nintendo could not fully fix it through software updates, leading to years of modding and game leaks.
So far, no comparable vulnerability has surfaced for Switch 2. The newly disclosed exploit is limited to applications rather than the console’s secure boot process, significantly reducing its impact from a security standpoint.
For now, the discovery represents progress for the homebrew and security research community rather than a threat to Nintendo’s platform. Unless a higher-level exploit emerges, Switch 2 remains protected against the widespread piracy issues that affected its predecessor.
