Nintendo Switch 2 owners will soon have another major anime game to look forward to. Sega has officially announced that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is receiving a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, expanding the game’s platform lineup ahead of its release later this year.
The announcement confirms that the upgraded version will launch in Japan on October 29, 2026, giving players access to the latest entry in CyberConnect2’s arena fighter series on Nintendo’s newest console. While Sega has yet to reveal what technical enhancements the Switch 2 Edition will offer, it has already confirmed an upgrade option for existing Nintendo Switch owners as well as a new physical release that includes additional downloadable content.
Switch owners can upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
One of the biggest announcements accompanying the reveal is that players who already own The Hinokami Chronicles 2 on the original Nintendo Switch won’t need to purchase the game again at full price. Sega has confirmed that an Upgrade Pack will be available, allowing existing owners to move to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
The publisher has not yet disclosed pricing or the contents of the upgrade, but the move follows a growing trend among Nintendo Switch 2 releases that offer enhanced versions alongside paid upgrade paths for current players.
In addition to the digital upgrade, Japan will also receive a physical Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. The boxed version includes the Infinity Castle – Part 1 Character Pass DLC, giving buyers immediate access to additional playable content based on the upcoming Infinity Castle storyline.
At the time of writing, Sega has not announced whether the Switch 2 Edition or the physical bundle will be released outside Japan.
Like the original game, The Hinokami Chronicles 2 adapts major story arcs from the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime. Players once again take control of Tanjiro Kamado, reliving some of the series’ biggest battles through cinematic action gameplay.
According to Sega, Story Mode covers the Entertainment District Arc, Swordsmith Village Arc, and Hashira Training Arc, allowing players to face powerful Upper Rank demons while fighting alongside familiar allies from the anime.

These arcs bridge the gap between the original game and the upcoming Infinity Castle trilogy of films, making the sequel an important entry for fans who want to revisit the story in interactive form.
Over 40 playable fighters headline expanded VS Mode
Beyond Story Mode, The Hinokami Chronicles 2 significantly expands its competitive offerings. Sega has confirmed that the game features more than 40 playable characters, including all nine Hashira, the elite swordsmen of the Demon Slayer Corps.
The sequel also introduces new gameplay mechanics such as Dual Ultimates, which allow characters to unleash powerful combined attacks, and a new Gear system designed to add more strategic options during battles.
Players will be able to test these mechanics in both online and offline VS Mode, offering a variety of ways to compete against friends or other players worldwide.
The original The Hinokami Chronicles, released in 2021, sold over four million copies worldwide, according to Sega, making it one of the publisher’s most successful anime-based games. The sequel builds upon that foundation with a larger roster, additional story content, and refined combat systems.
