The next major chapter of Genshin Impact is almost here, and it looks like one of the most story-driven updates yet. HoYoverse has officially announced Version “Luna VII,” set to release on May 20, bringing players back to Sumeru for a high-stakes narrative twist. Alongside the new Archon Quest, the update introduces three playable characters and several limited-time events designed to expand both gameplay and lore.
Titled “Truth Amongst the Pages of Purana,” the update signals a tonal shift for Sumeru’s storyline. What was once a region defined by knowledge and balance is now heading into uncertainty, with new threats emerging and familiar allies drawn into conflict. This update does not just add content. It pushes the overarching narrative forward in a meaningful way.
Sumeru’s Story Takes a Dark Turn
Version Luna VII centers on a new Archon Quest that puts Sumeru at the heart of a growing crisis. The story begins with Nahida falling into a mysterious slumber, creating a power vacuum that quickly destabilizes the region.
As tensions rise, a dangerous new enemy enters the picture, with connections that hint at deeper unresolved conflicts. The storyline brings together multiple characters, both new and returning, creating a layered narrative that builds on previous arcs while introducing fresh stakes.
Players who complete the quest during its limited availability will unlock valuable rewards, including Primogems and character progression materials. A new Weekly Boss will also be introduced, designed to test players with unique mechanics and unpredictable attack patterns.
A major highlight of the update is the arrival of three new playable characters, each offering distinct gameplay possibilities. Nicole leads the lineup as a 5-star Pyro Catalyst user and the first playable member of the Hexenzirkel. Her kit focuses on boosting team performance through attack buffs and protective abilities, making her a strong support option.
Lohen, another 5-star addition, brings a more aggressive playstyle with his Cryo Polearm. His mechanics revolve around managing special resources that enhance his combat output, rewarding players who can master timing and synergy.
Prune completes the trio as a 4-star Anemo Catalyst user. Known as the “Witch Hunter,” she specializes in elemental reactions, particularly Swirl, making her a versatile choice for players who enjoy reaction-based team compositions.
Events and Features Add More Ways to Play

Beyond the main story, Luna VII introduces several limited-time activities that expand the overall experience. One of the key events revolves around Klee’s Little Hexenzirkel, offering a collection of mini-games and themed challenges. Players can earn exclusive rewards, including a unique weapon appearance.
Miliastra Wonderland also makes its debut as a sports-themed event, giving players a different style of gameplay compared to traditional combat-focused content. These additions are designed to keep the experience varied while maintaining engagement between major story updates.
On the technical side, new features like “Guiding Notes” will help players revisit past storylines, making it easier to follow the game’s increasingly complex narrative. Improvements to creative tools and in-game systems also allow for better exploration and content capture across Teyvat.
Version Luna VII reinforces Genshin Impact’s position as a constantly evolving live-service RPG. With a deeper story arc, impactful new characters, and a mix of gameplay content, the May 20 update is shaping up to be one of the most important releases for the game this year.
