Nindies to watch week 27 – 2019

The Summer vacation has already started and with last week being a very busy moment for the eShop with several great titles and Super Mario Maker 2 releasing, we sit back and have a more relaxing first week of July with a few interesting little game coming out.

What Remains of Edith Finch

Originally released on other platforms in 2017, the game received critical acclaim thanks to its emotional story and artistic presentation. The game tells the story of Edith Finch, the last of a family which has fallen victim to a curse that causes all but one member of each generation to die.

As Edith, you’ll explore the colossal Finch house, searching for stories as she explores her family history and tries to figure out why she’s the last one in her family left alive. Each story you find lets you experience the life of a new family member on the day of their death, with stories ranging from the distant past to the present day. The gameplay and tone of the stories are as varied as the Finches themselves. The only constants are that each is played from a first-person perspective and that each story ends with that family member’s death.

Clannad is considered a landmark in the visual novel genre, both for developer Key as well as the nakige (“crying game”) genre itself. The first of the studio’s titles to feature no adult content, Clannad stars high-school delinquent Okazaki Tomoya as he has a chance encounter with a strange girl on his way to school. Tomoya finds himself drawn into one mysterious life after another, as he slowly works to change his high school days for the better. Routinely considered one of the best visual novels ever, it was ported to just about every system in the 2000s, and the latest move to the Switch looks to continue that trend.

Asdivine Dios

Kemco isn’t slowing down on its RPG releases on Switch. Now the company is bringing over their game Asdivine Dios to the Nintendo Switch. Boasting a voluminous story, an expansive world, treasure filled dungeons, exciting turn-based battles, weapon creation, and more.

Among the many worlds the deities have created, there is one world that abounds with life known as Asdivine. But when a spate of disturbances erupts across the globe and an ever spreading murk threatens to destroy it, Izayoi, the deity of Asdivine himself, takes up his cause to save the world he created with his own hands. Suffering from an unfortunate loss of his own divine powers, is there any hope he can succeed? Find out as the curtain raises on this adventure of divine proportions!

Although this is clearly a slower week to start of the warm (or not so warm) summer season, there are many more games on our to play and upcoming list to look forward to. One more notable release this week is Red Faction Guerilla Re-Mars-Tered from THQ Nordic, which is a re-release from the original PS3 and Xbox 360 game.
