Nindies to watch week 14 – 2019

It’s April 1st! And while there are a ton of misleading news articles out there, we are here to give you an honest rundown of this weeks three best indie releases on the eShop. These are in no particular order nor shall we say that these are the best games of this week, since hidden releases and reviews may surprise all of us now and then. But we do believe that we can be fairly certain that these games are all worth your hard earned coins.

Hob: The Definitive Edition

Acclaimed developer Panic Button, better known for their ports of Doom and Wolfenstein II for Switch, are now bringing over Hob: The Definitive Edition. Hob was originally published in 2017 by former studio Runic Games and now Perfect World Entertainment is bringing this fun puzzle platformer over to our favorite hybrid console.

Hob sends players on a journey through a lost civilization teeming with strange creatures and plenty of puzzles to solve throughout the world. The Switch version gives adventurers new ways to interact with the game world, like new camera controls, improvements to the game’s UI, new quality of life improvements, and features like HD rumble and touch screen functionality that could only be done via Switch. After this release Panic Button might also work on bringing over the Torchlight Series to Nintendo Switch!

Mechstermination Force

Creator Hörbert Bertil is bringing his latest game Mechstermination Force to Nintendo Switch this week. Bertil is best known for its succesful Gunman Clive series and just like with his previous work this game will (for now?) only be coming to Nintendo’s console.

In this game you join the Mechstermination Force and you have to (you guessed it!) battle giant Mechmechs in a rampant run and gun 2D action game. You can jump and climb on top of the mechs to find it’s weak spot, and use different abilities and items to your advantage. But watch out since all bosses have tricks up their iron sleeves! The game can also be played coöperatively on the couch and feature 4 playable characters.

Bow to Blood: Last Captain Standing

Developer Tribetoy will be bringing their airship VR game Bow to Blood: Last Captain Standing to Switch and other consoles. Yes we say VR, but the developer has made the game perfectly playable with a regular screen in mind as wel. The game is like any other game out there, with a mix of naval combat, diplomacy and airship management.

The game is a single-player action-strategy roguelike in which players must oversee a flying airship in a multi-stage competition being broadcast as a deadly reality TV show. You’ll have to manage your ragtag crew to keep your vessel afloat, fend off incoming attackers, gather resources, and search for treasure, and – in a The Hunger Games-style twist, you’ll even need to forge temporary alliances to work against the biggest threats in the game. Of course, only one captain can be victorious, so these friendships won’t last for long.

Any release you are looking forward to this week? Let us know in the comments below and be sure to check back next week for more upcoming nindies.
