Square Enix has revealed a wave of major announcements for Final Fantasy 14 during the 2026 Fan Festival in Berlin, headlined by the long-awaited release date for the MMORPG’s Nintendo Switch 2 version. The publisher confirmed that Final Fantasy 14 will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 4, 2026, with pre-orders now available through the Nintendo eShop.
Alongside the platform announcement, Square Enix showcased the upcoming Evercold expansion, confirmed a crossover raid inspired by the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy, introduced a brand-new playable job, and revealed several gameplay improvements arriving over the next year.
Nintendo Switch 2 version launches in August with multiple editions
Square Enix confirmed that players will be able to jump into Final Fantasy 14 on Nintendo Switch 2 starting August 4, 2026.
New players can begin with the Free Trial or purchase one of several editions, including the Starter Edition ($19.99), Complete Edition ($59.99)—discounted to $41.99 during pre-orders—and the Complete Collector’s Edition ($139.99), available for $97.99 as a pre-order offer. The Dawntrail expansion will also be available separately for $39.99, while its Collector’s Edition is priced at $59.99.
To help ensure stable servers following launch, Square Enix also announced an approximately one-month free subscription period for Nintendo Switch 2 players.
Evercold expansion introduces new content and a Final Fantasy 7 crossover
During the keynote presentation, Final Fantasy 14 Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida introduced Evercold, the game’s sixth expansion, scheduled to launch in January 2027. According to Square Enix, the expansion begins the Godless Realms Saga and introduces the icy world known as the Fourth.
Yoshida also revealed Bastion, a new main tank job that fights using twin greatshields called skyltborg, alongside an extended teaser trailer showcasing the class in action.
One of the biggest announcements came when Final Fantasy 7 Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi joined Yoshida on stage to reveal Beyond the Lifestream, a brand-new eight-player crossover raid series inspired by the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy. Square Enix confirmed that both development teams are collaborating closely to create the crossover experience.
The presentation also featured an updated trailer for the EVANGELION – Ghosts of Desire alliance raid, with acclaimed animator Mahiro Maeda joining the project as a special guest artist and designer.
Beyond new content, Evercold introduces a more flexible story progression system, automatic dungeon difficulty scaling, expanded character customization options, new action skins, improvements to Chocobo companions, and broader matchmaking across regional data centers.
With the Nintendo Switch 2 launch only weeks away and Evercold arriving in early 2027, Square Enix has outlined one of the largest roadmaps in Final Fantasy 14’s history, giving both new and returning Warriors of Light plenty to look forward to over the coming months.
