Asterix & Obelix XXL 3: The Crystal Menhir

Asterix and Obelix, who does not know them in the Western world. The cheerful Gallians have been a household name for 60 years. In 1959 the first comics were published about the cheerful men and women from the small village who managed to withstand the attack of the Romans through their magic potion made by their druid Panoramix. Now we are 60 years later after the first comic and we are also many games further based on Asterix and Obelix. Does this game know to be just as fun as the comics or is it fun to take it out of the budget bin once?

Asterix and Obelix XXL 3: The Crystal Menhir takes you on an adventure through the world of Asterix and Obelix. It is the first time that you can play an Asterix and Obelix game on this generation of consoles in co-op.

The story begins in the village of Armorica. The druid Panoramix receives a secret letter that leads to a valuable treasure. But Asterix and Obelix will not be themselves if they were not charmed by this and set off to look for this treasure.

The gameplay is fairly simple. Walk through an area, take on the Romans and move on to the next area. In the meantime, you should also look for collectibles and as many helmets as possible from the Romans. You can use the helmets of the Romans as money in the game. With this you can buy drinks to get your life up or upgrades for your skills so that you become much stronger.

The game works best when it is played in co-op. On your own it is fun but it is not that special, but in co-op hitting through the areas together is fun and provides enough fun to last a few good afternoons. In the game you will come across many characters that are fan favorites such as Cacofonix and Heroix. But also characters that are specially designed for this game and that may end up in the comics later on.

Graphically, the game has the look and feel of a comic. This is very nice to see because it now seems like you are walking around in the middle of the story you normally read. Both Asterix and Obelix have their own quirky lines during gameplay, making it a joy for the fans to see them interact together, although when you hear them time and time again it can lose the fun factor after a few hours in.

All in all, Asterix and Obelix XXL 3: The Crystal Menhir has become a fun game for both young and old. The Gameplay is simple and works best in co-op. In terms of graphics, the game looks good and it looks like you are walking around in the strip book yourself. It is fun to play but unfortunately not a high flyer.

This new adventure of Asterix & Obelix is a great game for fans and younger audiences. Not groundbreaking by any means but creates some fun afternoons with a friend.
